WELLINGTON, Kansas -- A routine traffic stop Saturday yielded the arrest of 12 illegal aliens by Immigration and Naturalization Services.
According to Director of Public Relations for the Kansas Turnpike Authority Lisa Callahan, Kansas Highway Patrol officers stopped a late-model Oldsmoblie minivan with Arizona license plates for a traffic violation at around 2:15 p.m., Saturday, at Exit 19 on the Kansas Turnpike.
Upon speaking with the driver and the occupants, it was discovered the van was transporting illegal immigrants.
The Kansas Highway Patrol then called INS and Homeland Security officials. A van with Homeland Security identification was on scene Saturday.
