PHOENIX, Arizona -- Phoenix police have taken 18 undocumented immigrants into custody Thursday evening after raiding an apparent drophouse for human smuggling.
Police said that a call came in at about 7 p.m. regarding shots fired at an apartment complex near Central Avenue and Broadway Road. Witnesses told police that 25-30 people were also seen running out of two apartments in the complex.
Phoenix police Sgt. Joel Tranter said that when officers arrived on the scene, those people had already left the area. Officers then found 18 undocumented immigrants inside the two apartments.
