Springfield, TENNESSEE: NC5 Investigation Affected Electrolux Production

newschannel5.com

NASHVILLE, Tennessee -- A NewsChannel 5 investigation revealed how easy it was for illegal immigrants to buy fake IDs.

Changes have occurred at Electrolux, a large employer in Springfield, and the surrounding area since the ongoing investigation aired and law enforcement conducted immigration raids in the area.

O'Bryan Williams, an insider at Electrolux, worked for the company for five years. Before he left, he worked as an associate supervisor.

He claims since the investigation aired, production at the 3,000-strong plant was almost cut in half.

For the past five years, Williams headed to work at Electrolux and slowly moved up the ladder.

But he said he also noticed what he called a big open secret.

"Everybody in Electrolux basically knew there was an illegal workforce," he said. "Sometimes you could see what we called the revolving door where somebody would get fired. You would know them as one name. They would come back as another name."
