VIRGINIA: Assembly to consider proposals on illegals

The Virginia State Crime Commission's recommendations on illegal aliens should get full consideration in the 2008 General Assembly, despite Democrats taking control of the state Senate in the recent elections, the commission chairman said yesterday.

"Whatever comes out will get a serious look," said Sen. Kenneth W. Stolle, Virginia Beach Republican and commission chairman. "Some people want Virginia to address illegal immigration from a political perspective and that is not what the crime commission has done. ...We took a look at illegal immigration from the law-enforcement and public-safety perspectives. And I don't think — regardless of what party you are in — that you can leave those issues undone."
