CULPEPER, Virginia -- More than 20 local officials gathered at the Germanna Center for Advanced Technology on Thursday, Oct. 25, to discuss legislative solutions to problems caused by illegal aliens.
Created by the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors, the Coalition on Illegal Immigration was designed to join localities of the state of Virginia who share concerns on the increase of illegal aliens.
During Thursday's meeting, those concerns were laid on the table, with employment and housing issues topping the list.
"We have had homes in the $600,000 range and the property values plummeted because they had been converted into boarding houses," said Dave Kirby of the Town of Herndon. "We've had to be pretty creative because we've had 15 men in a house, dividing the space into cells, which is clearly a health concern."
