PHOENIX, Arizona -- The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office has arrested 34 illegal immigrants in connection to a human smuggling drophouse near Tolleson, police said.

Acting on a tip phoned into the office's "illegal immigration hotline," deputies first arrested 11 illegal immigrants, one of whom was a smuggler, Monday during a traffic stop on Interstate 10 near 99th Avenue, a statement issued by the department said.

Information from that arrest led deputies to a house in the 9000 block of West Southgate Avenue in Phoenix, where they arrested 23 other illegal immigrants today.

In the statement, the department said, "the Sheriff's Office continues to be the only Arizona law enforcement agency enforcing all aspects of the Arizona human smuggling law and federal immigration laws."

The "illegal immigration hotline" has received more than 2,000 calls since Sheriff Joe Arpaio announced its creation in August.
