CARROLLTON, Illinois -- A traffic stop by Carrollton police resulted in the arrests of 17 illegal aliens Tuesday.

Carrollton Police Chief Mike Kiger said Officer Terry Gross was on patrol Tuesday when he saw a northbound pickup truck run the stop sign on U.S. 67 near the Jiffi-Stop in the center of town.

The officer pulled the 1998 pickup over at the northern edge of Carrollton, next to Henry T. Rainey Park. When Gross approached the truck, he saw the driver and two passengers in the front seat, with three more in the back seat, all apparently of Mexican heritage. None could speak English.

The truck had a camper shell on the back, and the officer discovered 11 more people, including three youngsters, inside.
