DOTHAN, Alabama -- Amanda Harvey says her mother-in-law -- Tommie Harvey -- was one week away from embarking on a truck-driving career. But now she may never walk again after being seriously injured in this multi-car pile-up at the Ross Clark Circle - W. Main intersection.
One witness says 23-year-old Louis Hohoa was driving on Montgomery Hwy. when he hit a Cadillac Escalade by the Old Mexico restaurant. But instead of stopping, his road rampage proceeded south on the Circle -- almost hitting two other cars -- until he crashed at the Circle intersection. Dothan Police say they're investigating injuries to other drivers.
And in a telephone interview -- Amanda says Tommie -- known by friends and family as "Faye" -- has two punctured lungs, a broken arm and back, a hole in her bladder, a shattered pelvis and will have her spleen removed. Doctors said it was a wonder she survived.
Meanwhile, police said they didn't find a social security number or any other form of ID on Hohoa -- leading them to believe he may be an illegal alien.
"It will be a factor in his making bond," Capt. Larry Draughn said. "He's been charged with assault first degree. He underwent the steps to be checked for his blood-alcohol level. He had blood drawn and that will be sent off and tested."
But if Hohoa is illegal, Draughn says police may wait until they alert the state immigration officer. Draughn adds while police investigate Louis Hohoa's status in the US, any previous criminal activity will appear on record. And if he is an illegal alien, police will contact immigration.
