DARE COUNTY, North Carolina -- Like many local government entities throughout the United States, the Dare County Board of Commissioners is wrestling with the topic of illegal immigrants.
During a recent board meeting, Commissioner Richard Johnson proposed that the county enact its own ordinance that would assess monetary penalties against businesses that hire illegal immigrants.
Johnson said the reason for the proposed ordinance is due to the burden that illegal immigrants are placing on the health care, social services and school systems in Dare County.
