ALAMANCE County, North Carolina -- When Julie Snead reads or watches the news she notes the amount of crime reported these days. It’s almost a way of life, she said, not just in Burlington but around the Piedmont.
“It’s getting worse everywhere, it’s getting to a point that we just have to accept it,” she said Thursday in Burlington.
Standing nearby, Susan Wynn agreed.
“It certainly makes me cautious, it makes me not want to take my eyes off my daughter,” Wynn said.
The most recent numbers released by the State Bureau of Investigation reflect those observations. Reported crime is up in Alamance County, according to 2006 figures released earlier this month. And violent crime has spiked to its highest index level in 10 years.
