SELMA, North Carolina -- Thursday's drug bust that yielded two arrests surprised sheriff's deputies due to the drugs' inexpensive price, a Johnston County sheriff’s deputy said.
In addition to taking brothers Juan and Edgar Cruz-Gonzalez off the streets, officers got what they perceived as a discount on the drugs they bought, Lt. Angela Bryan said. Bryan said the men sold deputies two ounces of powder cocaine for about $1, 400.
"Depending on who you buy from, an ounce can normally run you about $800 to $1000," she noted.
Bryan said the April 19 bust occurred about 7:20 p.m. in the parking lot of Tractor Supply near Selma. A tipster had offered up information about the Cruz-Gonzalezes, who until recently were unknown to sheriff’s detectives, Bryan said.
Both men are thought to be illegal aliens, but Bryan said their status had not been confirmed.
