HAINES City, Florida -- More than 1,300 cans of baby formula, valued at $18,400, was found in a car stopped during a routine Polk County Sheriff’s Office traffic checkpoint last week, and a man in the country illegally has been charged with stealing it.
The formula was found in a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe during an “Over the Limit, Under Arrest” traffic safety checkpoint that deputies conducted on Thursday, March 29, on Powerline Road in Haines City. Investigators say the formula was stolen from grocery stores all over Florida.
Around 7:30 p.m., deputies stopped the Tahoe, which was driven by a Hispanic male and asked for his driver’s license. The man produced what appeared to be a fraudulent Mexican driver’s license.
