When my family member was applying for a new job requiring a security clearance, it was discovered the person's Social Security number was being used elsewhere. This person was denied the clearance and the job based on this Social Security fraud.
The Social Security number was used in various locations and credit was also applied for. Though the fraud was discovered within months of it occurring, it took years to clear up the credit and tax problems with the Internal Revenue Service.
The illegal immigrants who used this Social Security number robbed the rightful owner just as if they had used a gun to steal the identity.
Every time an illegal immigrant enters this country and uses a person's Social Security number, he or she not only has violated the nation's borders, but also has violated an American.
