TENNESSEE: Texas drug link being investigated in Trooper death

The City Paper

Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) agents have been dispatched to Austin, Texas, to continue the investigation into what led to the killing of State Trooper Calvin Jenks during a traffic stop in Tipton County Saturday.

Jenks was killed when one of the two men he pulled over near the intersection of highways 14 and 54 shot him twice in the head, according to video taken from the THP patrol car, TBI officials said.

The vehicle was a rental car with a Texas registration, and at least one of the occupants had a Texas driver’s license, TBI spokeswoman Jennifer Johnson said Monday.

Johnson also said that Guana and Garcia both appear to be legal U.S. residents.

“One of them had a driver’s license and there seemed to be Social Security numbers connected to them. It seems that at this stage of the game we’ve not found anything to indicate they’re illegal.”

Johnson said that TBI agents in Texas will also be looking into the possibility either of the two had false identification or a fraudulent Social Security number.
