Florence, South Carolina -- A Mexican man has pleaded guilty in federal court in Florence to transporting illegal aliens within the United States after his October arrest on Interstate 95 in Florence County.
Enrique Hernandez Lopez, 21, pleaded guilty Monday. He also was in the United States illegally, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
U.S. District Judge Terry L. Wooten of Florence accepted the plea and will sentence him after he reviews a presentence report by the U.S. Probation Office.
A Florence County sheriff’s deputy stopped a vehicle driven by Hernandez Lopez on Oct. 12 as the suspect traveled south on the interstate. The deputy had stopped the vehicle for a minor traffic violation.
Seven passengers were inside the vehicle. They were citizens of either Mexico or Guatemala and had entered the United States illegally.
