Clarksville, Tennessee -- City contractors determined to knowingly hire illegal aliens will now face punishment from the city.
The Clarksville City Council approved Thursday the second reading of an ordinance prohibiting offending businesses from contracting with the city or bidding on any city projects for one year.
The ordinance was approved with little discussion as part of the council's consent agenda.
City Attorney David Haines said violators will be allowed to continue work on their current project, and companies that are found to have prior violations with federal Immigration and Naturalization Services shall be prohibited from ever contracting with the city.
