Alabama -- The federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency is putting some big dollars into the pockets of Alabama state troopers. They will receive $2.5 million in specialized computers and equipment to help catch illegal immigrants.
Since 2003, 60 Alabama state troopers have been federally trained to arrest those who are in the United States illegally.
"We're very busy. Over the state, we've arrested 200 illegal aliens, probably 250 at this point," said Tpr. Eric Dowdell.
Because of Alabama's success rate, every ICE-trained trooper will get a new laptop in their car to speed up the arrest.
"They won't have the ability to lie. If they're in the federal computer, we're able to find out if they've got a warrant, if they're a felon, or if they've been previously deported within seconds," said Cpl. Susanna Capps.
