Georgia -- In a move that may place Cobb County at the vanguard of cracking down on illegal immigrants in Georgia, the County Commission approved a request Tuesday from the sheriff's department to work closer with federal immigration officials to deport jailed illegal immigrants.
Cobb County officials said the move sends a signal that Cobb is willing to get tough in the contentious debate over illegal immigration.
"They've taken a very aggressive stand toward addressing illegal aliens," said Terry Norris, executive vice president of the Georgia Sheriffs' Association.
