South Carolina -- Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone aims for the Florence County Detention Center to become the state’s second jail that houses illegal immigrants, a development arriving in the wake of 22 immigrants arrested in two days last week.
“Because of the immigration problems we’ve had, we’ve talked to (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) about, in the future, becoming a holding facility for illegal immigrants,” Florence County Sheriff Kenney Boone said.
The Charleston County Detention Center is South Carolina’s only facility that holds illegal immigrants for the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE.
