Altoona, Pennsylvania -- In a 6-1 vote the Altoona City Council voted in favor of the controversial ordinance on illegal immigration. Councilman Matt Garber casted the only vote against the measure, citing some concerns with it. Still, Garber says he supports the council's effort to crack down on illegal immigration. Both supporters and opponents voiced opinions throughout during Wednesday night's council meeting. After much debate the council voted to approve the ordinace that will penalize businesses that hire illegal immigrants and landlords who rent to them. The ordinace takes effect in 10 days.
