Rutherford, Tennessee -- U.S. Rep. Bart Gordon is backing the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department’s efforts to participate in a federal program designed to deport illegal immigrants who are arrested on other criminal charges.

In the past year, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department arrested 708 non-U.S. citizens,” said Gordon, who wrote a Sept. 15 letter to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement supporting the Sheriff’s Department’s proposal.
