WICHITA, Kansas -- Authorities on Wednesday arrested a former Cessna Aircraft worker who went public with claims that the company used his illegal immigration status to avoid paying for his medical treatment after an on-the-job injury.
Rogelio Ortega-Guzman was indicted on six federal counts involving the use of false documents between March 1999 and March 2003. He was arrested at his home early Wednesday morning on a superseding indictment issued June 14. The first indictment against him was dated May 31, the same day indictments were handed down against five other Cessna workers alleged to be illegal immigrants working with false documents.
The charges allege Ortega used a fraudulent Social Security and resident alien card, deceived the Kansas Division of Workers Compensation by using a false Social Security number, used another person's alien registration number on an employment eligibility verification form and deceived Cessna by using a bogus Social Security number.
Also on Wednesday, the U.S. Attorney's Office filed a criminal complaint against his wife, Maria Leticia de Ortega, alleging aggravated identity theft for the use of a Social Security number belonging to a California resident. The woman called The Associated Press early Wednesday to say her husband had been arrested and that she would take her children into hiding.
