Belmont County, OHIO: Immigration officers, deputies disagree over release of illegal aliens (ICE trying to cover its rear)

Associated Press

ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- A sheriff's deputy said he pulled over a van carrying 20 people he suspected of being illegal immigrants but released them on the recommendation of an immigration official, which the federal immigration enforcement agency disputed.

Deputy Robert Roberts of the Belmont County Sheriff's Office in eastern Ohio said he pulled over the van Tuesday morning after it failed to stay in its lane. A passenger told Roberts that the riders were all illegal immigrants, and he detained them for more than two hours while deputies checked the riders' background information and contacted federal immigration officials.

Roberts said the dispatcher contacted the after-hours number of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency and was told to release the detainees because they could not be interviewed at that time.

This story does not mention that fact that there were 3 PREVIOUSLY DEPORTED Illegal Aliens in this group. Heads should roll from the top down. The Department of Homeland IN-Security strikes again or should I say strikes out. Read previous stories posted for more details.
