Massachusetts -- Attorney General Thomas Reilly yesterday defended his policy to take no action against employers who hire illegal immigrants, while immigration watchdogs slammed him for not doing more to thwart undocumented workers.
Reilly said it is the responsibility of federal authorities, not his office, to crack down on companies that hire illegal immigrants. His office's policy, he said, is to go after companies for wage and hour violations, but not to report to federal law enforcers if there are illegal immigrants working at those firms or act against the employers for hiring them.
