CARRBORO, North Carolina -- Even if the federal government wants an illegal immigrant detained, Carrboro police won't do it unless they have a local cause, the Board of Aldermen decided Tuesday.
A recent arrest of a South African who was pulled over for a simple traffic violation but wanted for civil immigration issues prompted the board to explore whether that was an appropriate action.
After examining the event, the town attorney advised that while the officer acted appropriately in that situation, the law is insufficiently clear and aldermen should clarify local policy.
The board voted unanimously Tuesday to instruct the police "not to arrest or take into custody persons whose only known violation of law is or may be a civil immigration violation."
Another town or city selectively deciding which laws will be enforced against citizens and legal residents and which ones will not be enforced against illegal aliens even if ICE has already put a detainer or hold on the illegal alien in violation of the law.
Better hope if you are an American Citizen or legal resident that you don't get pulled over in this town. I bet your last dollar that you will be arrested and brought before the judge and then thrown in jail.
Maybe, some Fedgov funds should be cut from this lawless town.
