HAZLETON, Pennsylvania -- Hazleton Mayor Louis Barletta and Police Chief Robert Ferdinand sat down Monday with federal crime prevention experts and immigration officials in Washington, D.C., to learn about crime prevention initiatives and immigration enforcement.
“As mayor, I will do everything possible and utilize every resource available to ensure that our streets are safe,” Barletta said.
Barletta said Ferdinand previously contacted officials from the Department of Homeland Security’s Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, formerly the Department of Immigration and Naturalization Services.
Barletta said immigration officials indicated they would assign agents to assist with deporting aliens and foreign nationals who might be in Hazleton illegally.
