SHELBYVILLE, Kentucky -- In the eyes of state Rep. Brad Montell, illegal immigration is a problem that's not going to solve itself.
Speaking to a crowd of Shelby County business leaders Wednesday, Montell said the federal government must address the issue and not put the burden -- financially and otherwise -- on state and local governments.
"The federal government, by not securing our borders, has allowed this to happen," Montell said during a Shelby County Chamber of Commerce/Industrial Foundation luncheon. "It's an issue that's risen to the top and we've got to deal with it. I'm glad it's on the front burner."
