Arizona -- Illegal aliens suspected of using smugglers to bring them into the country can be arrested and charged under a new state human smuggling law, according to a legal opinion released Thursday by Maricopa County's top prosecutor.
County Attorney Andrew Thomas said that, under Arizona law, people may be charged with an offense if there is evidence that they solicited someone to commit the offense.
Thomas' opinion said Arizona officers also have the authority to asked presumed illegal aliens about their immigration status.
