MOUNDSVILLE, West Virginia -- Two Mexican men who claimed to be illegal immigrants working at the Wal-Mart Supercenter construction site in Moundsville have waived their rights to hearings before a federal immigration judge to argue deportation, according to Marshall County Prosecuting Attorney Jeffrey Cramer.
Francisco Aguilar Salvidar, 29, and Martin Ramos Cuevas, 38, were picked up by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers early Friday and transferred into federal custody based on federal detainers. The two are under federal detention without bond, said ICE spokesman Michael Gilhooly.

"We'll be investigating all the circumstances surrounding this case," Gilhooly said. "We'll gather information, we'll interview these two subjects and other people and determine where (the investigation) goes from there."

Keith Hart, former court-appointed counsel for Salvidar, said Friday that during an interview at the Northern Regional Jail, both men freely admitted and maintained they were in the United States illegally. Hart said the two men laughed when told through an interpreter that the president of the company that hired them, Tony Morton of Prime Contracting Inc. of Stanton, Ky., claimed to have the men's employment eligibility documentation and copies of their resident alien cards in his possession.
