New Jersey: Tough ID policy gets big results

New Jersey's "six-point" identification program requiring drivers to show several documents before obtaining a photo license has led to the arrest of 1,499 people presenting bogus papers, officials said Wednesday.

Those arrested were caught with one or more fake documents, including Social Security cards, passports, birth certificates, green cards and driver's licenses. Also arrested were about 30 motor vehicle agency employees.

Officials with the state Motor Vehicle Commission hailed the two-year-old program as a cornerstone of the state's security enhancement efforts, saying it is a way of protecting customers from identity theft.
