Oregon -- A state immigration-reform group has asked Gov. Ted Kulongoski to declare an immigration emergency.
The governors of two Southwest states recently made such declarations for counties along the U.S.-Mexico border. Oregon is far from the border, but Jim Ludwick, the president of Oregonians for Immigration Reform, said the state is at risk.
Ludwick, the leader of the 5-year-old immigration-reform group, which has nearly 500 statewide members, said illegal immigrants have bankrupted the Oregon Health Plan and led to a jump in the meth trade.
