McALLEN — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol agents have arrested six more Mara Salvatrucha gang members since Friday, bringing the fiscal year 2005 total to 49 in the Rio Grande Valley Sector.

The latest arrest occurred Monday evening about half a mile west of the Roma port of entry, said local agency spokesman Roy Cervantes.

A Mexican national, a juvenile and the alleged Mara Salvatrucha were walking through the brush when agents spotted them. After being taken back to a Border Patrol station, a criminal background check revealed that the 19-year-old Central American had a prior deportation and an extensive criminal history — the Border Patrol, however, would not release details on that history.
