Alabama -- Statistics on how many illegal immigrants fail to show up for court either aren't available or are too cumbersome to obtain.
Sheriff Greg Bartlett said he didn't know how many warrants Morgan County judges issued to illegal immigrants.
"We'd have to hand-search 10,000 warrants," Bartlett said.
Rep. Micky Hammon, R-Decatur, contacted Bartlett recently about illegal immigrants not showing up for court or paying fines.
"Hammon is talking about legislation that if they don't have proper documents, maybe we could seize their vehicle," Bartlett said. "Hit them in the pocketbook the way we do drug dealers. We've got to get tougher laws, and our representatives are trying to help us."
