Official: More agents could be assigned to Border Patrol office

CARLSBAD — The U.S. Border Patrol has a new 10,000-square-foot station in Carlsbad but is currently using only a small portion of its capacity.

The $7.5 million Carlsbad station, located in the city industrial park, opened in February.

It includes a detention and holding area, an exercise room, a muster and training squad room, a conference room, four administrative offices and a multi-purpose room.

The station has space for 25 agents, but only nine people — including five Border Patrol agents, one supervising agent and an acting patrol agent in charge — are currently stationed at the Carlsbad office.
