Drivers were paid to take illegal aliens east

It was going to be a lot of time behind the wheel, but Ricardo Moreno-Monarrez thought the payoff was worth it: $500 each for him and a companion to deliver a vanload of illegal immigrants from Texas to several cities hundreds of miles away.

Moreno-Monarrez and David Villareal-Zuniga reported for duty in Houston several days ago, meeting the man who had hired them. He gave them a detailed list of names and destinations, paid them another $400 to cover the cost of food and gas, and led them to the waiting vehicle.
