Kyl, Cornyn introducing tough immigrant plan despite long odds

phoenix.bizjournals.com

Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl and Texas Sen. John Cornyn will introduce get-tough immigration and border security legislation Tuesday despite the long odds for any major federal immigration moves this year.

Kyl and Cornyn -- both Republicans -- oppose amnesty for illegal aliens already in the U.S. and want tougher border security, beefed-up interior immigration enforcement and increased penalties against employers who illegally hire undocumented workers.

Details of the bill will be released Tuesday.

The Kyl-Cornyn measure will not include amnesty for illegals already in the U.S. or a new legal path for that population to get approved status.
