WASHINGTON -- Nearly one in 10 births in 2002 were to mothers who were in the country illegally, according to a report released by a group that supports stronger enforcement of immigration laws.
The Center for Immigration Studies report shows about 9.5 percent of the nation's 4 million births in 2002 were to mothers who lacked legal residency, with the largest percentages in California, Arizona and Texas.
