Fox seeks new focus from Bush on immigration at APEC

Bloomberg

LOS CABOS, Baja California Sur - President Vicente Fox, seeking to improve rights for undocumented workers (Illegal Aliens) in the U.S., said he wants more than the fight against terrorism on the agenda when he meets with President George W. Bush today.

Fox took office two years ago promising to win the legalization of 3 million undocumented Mexicans (Illegal Aliens) living in the U.S., increase the number of work visas granted and improve safety for Mexicans crossing the border illegally. These initiatives were derailed amid heightened security concerns after the September 2001 attacks in the U.S.

"My message to him is: Let's get back to work," Fox said in an interview this week in Los Cabos, Mexico.

"We were very close to a solution before Sept. 11. I think if we work very hard on that we can come back to a position where we can have that ready and solved next year."
